Data Repositories

A data repository is a place that holds data, organizes them in a logical manner, and makes them available for use. This often includes attaching metadata to the data. Metadata are data about the data, such as how many observations are in the data and which variables do the data contain. Data stored in data repositories may also have a persistent identifier (PID) - a long-lasting reference to the data, such as a doi. As a researcher, you can use data repositories to share your own data, as well as find and use data collected by other researchers.
